Featured Report

Project Description: One of the earliest multi-story office buildings in Kuwait that used reinforced concrete, a brise-soleil system and elevators in the late 1950s. The commercial building housed notable tenants like the first English bookshop by Basheer Al Khateeb in 1962, the first permanent art gallery in Kuwait by Ghazi and Najat Sultan in 1969, and the original Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) offices.

Modern Heritage

This course introduces students to the theory and ethics of heritage conservation, what constitutes as cultural heritage. They study the best practices in cultural heritage conservation, and the types of conservation treatments. Projects include documentation of historic monuments, assessing the condition of historical buildings and sites, as well as explore conservation strategies for built heritage. This course is a collaboration between Kuwait University and the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL).
